Scott Kammerer
CEO of SoDel Concepts
On September 17th, we were joined by Scott Kammerer, CEO of SoDel Concepts.
Scott answered our seven questions with honesty and a down to earth quality that cut out the jargon of corporate talk.
Here’s some of what he talked about:
• Never stop hiring, continually replace the bottom five.
• Balancing work is about having a way to disengage.
• Spend more time creating bridges between diverse team members.
• Help your employees climb the corporate ladder with programs for their success.
This short list simply can’t do Scott’s points justice.
Keep an eye out for the full event video on the GRIT Talks YouTube page.
About Scott
Scott Kammerer is the CEO of SoDel Concepts, which owns the SoDel family of businesses, including Southern Delaware Brewing, Highwater Management, and SoDel Ventures.
Under his leadership, SoDel Concepts has grown to 26 restaurants and has been named the second-largest employer in Sussex County, Delaware. Its portfolio includes well-known names such as Bluecoast Seafood Grill, Fish On, Matt’s Fish Camp, The Clubhouse at Baywood, and many more.
Scott has been widely recognized for his impact on the restaurant industry at both the state and national levels. After leading the industry through the pandemic as Chairman of the Delaware Restaurant Association, he earned a board seat on the National Restaurant Association. Delaware Business Times also named SoDel Concepts the Best Family-Owned Business in Delaware.
In addition to his business ventures, Scott is a dedicated philanthropist. In 2015, he founded SoDel Cares, a nonprofit that supports children, at-risk youth, adults reentering society from the prison system, and the elderly in need. Beneficiaries include the Rehoboth Beach Boys & Girls Club, The Harry K. Foundation, and Pathways to Success. To date, over $900,000 in grants have been distributed to local charities.
Scott’s career with SoDel Concepts began under the mentorship of Matt Haley, the company’s founder. In 2013, Scott was appointed President of SoDel Concepts to allow Haley to focus on humanitarian work.
Following Matt’s untimely passing in 2014, Scott and his family, along with Alan and Dan Levin, purchased the company from Haley’s estate and began a period of significant expansion.
Over the past 20 years, Scott has established himself as a premier developer of restaurant concepts on the East Coast. He is a founding partner of Highwater Management, HaleyKammerer Restaurant Consulting, and Matt’s Homemade Sodas, a line of craft sodas distributed throughout Delaware.
Scott lives in Rehoboth Beach with his wife Lisa and their three sons Griffin, Holden, and Carson. A former All-American wrestler, Scott carries his competitive spirit into both business and community leadership.
